Chevy Sonic Sounds Contest 2011
Official Rules
NO PURCHASE OR TEST DRIVE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN. A PURCHASE DOES NOT INCREASE YOUR CHANCES OF WINNING.
ELIGIBILITY:Chevy Sonic Sounds Contest (the “Contest”) is open only to musicians who are legal residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, 21 years of age or older at time of entry and who do NOT currently have:
- A music recording contract
- An agreement relating to the use of your name, voice and/or likeness, or songs with any other entity.
Each musical act must have between 1 and 2 members. The musical act can perform any musical genre as long as the content adheres to the requirements and restrictions in the “How to Enter” section below. Employees, officers and directors of General Motors LLC, (“Sponsor”), and General Motors dealerships, Fleishman-Hillard (“Administrator”), and their respective divisions, affiliates, subsidiaries and agents, and any others engaged in the development, production or distribution of promotional materials or prizes for this Contest, and members of the immediate families or households of any of the above are not eligible to enter or win. This Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited.
HOW TO ENTER: Between November 3, 2011 at 12 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST) and November 23, 2011 at 11:59 p.m. (CST), the musical act (if made up of more than one person) must choose a “Spokesperson” who will complete an electronic entry form and upload either a video or MP3 recording of an original song, that adheres to the requirements and restrictions below, to the contest website: ChevySonicSounds.com. Entrants will also be required to submit a photo of the band (jpg or gif). Only one entry per musical act.
Band entry requirements and restrictions:
- The song must be between 2 and 4 minutes long
- The maximum file size is 2 MB
- The music must be performed acoustically. No amplified music is allowed for the voting portion of the contest.

Neither the video nor the song may contain:
- Anything illegal, pornographic, obscene, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, or harmful to minors in any way
- Images or words that "Stalks", harasses, degrades, intimidates or is hateful toward an individual or group of individuals. Hate speech is not acceptable. That includes any Content that contains slurs or the malicious use of stereotypes intended to attack or demean a particular gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, or nationality.
- Nudity
- Attempts to sell any unofficial and/or unauthorized merchandise, including, without limitation, a personal sale, a sale as an unauthorized vendor or links to other sites or e-mail addresses concerning the sale of unofficial and/or unauthorized merchandise.
- Videos showing dangerous or illegal acts, like animal abuse, violence, drug abuse, or illegal weapons.
- Song, lyrics and video images must be original. Do NOT use copyrighted material such as music tracks, snippets of copyrighted programs, or videos made by other users, without their permission, or copyrighted logos.
- All privacy rights must be observed.
WINNER SELECTION:
Voting Phase:
All entry submissions will be reviewed by the administrator. The ones that adhere to the guidelines will be posted on the contest site, ChevySonicSounds.com for the voting phase. Between November 24, 2011 at 12 a.m. CST and December 2, 2011 at 11:59 p.m., the images, the performer bios and performer names and their MP3s or videos will be loaded to the contest website. The public will be able to vote for their favorite bands. Limit one vote once per person or email address. Voting is subject to Voting Terms and Conditions.
Judging Phase:
The Fifteen (15) semifinalists will be the entrants who receive the most online votes. A judging panel will then determine the five finalists. Up to 100 points will be awarded by the judges for each recorded submission. The 100 points will be comprised of:
- 33 pts. - Quality of instrumentation
- 34 pts. - Quality of songwriting
- 33 - quality of singing
The potential finalists will be contacted by the Administrator by phone on or about December, 5, 2011 and will have 24 hours to confirm their status as a finalist. The finalists must complete, sign and return an affidavit of eligibility, publicity/liability release within 48 hours. The release will include giving Chevy the right to use the finalist’s recorded submission and their recorded performance at The Loft without limit for a potential sales promotion in the North Texas area.
If a potential finalist fails to meet either of these deadlines, they will forfeit their prize and an alternate winner will be chosen, time permitting. The band MUST be able to perform at on the evening of Dec. 13, 2001 at The Loft, 1135 S. Lamar Street, Dallas, TX. If the band cannot perform on that date, an alternate will be contacted to take their place as a finalist if time permits. If the semifinalist is a duo and extenuating circumstances arise keeping one member from performing, the Sponsor or Administrator may allow a substitute player at their discretion.
Performance Phase:
During the Showcase on Dec. 13th, each finalist will be required to perform up to a 15- 20 minute set of original music, including the song that was submitted during the voting phase. On the performance date, the order of the performances will be randomly selected by the Administrator. If an act fails to show up at the beginning of the showcase, they will lose their chance to compete. Any finalist found to be heckling or otherwise harassing another finalist during the showcase will be disqualified.
One (1) Grand Prize (see prize descriptions below) will be awarded at the end of the showcase based on the judges scoring. The judges will be Chevy representatives. Up to 100 points will be awarded by the judges for each performance. The 100 points will be comprised of:
- 25 pts. - Quality of musicianship
- 25 pts. - Stage Presence
- 25 pts. - Crowd Engagement
- 25 pts. - Quality of songwriting
The entry with highest number of points will be deemed the grand prize winner. In the event of a tie, the entry among the tied entries with the highest score in musicianship will be deemed the grand prize winner. In the event of a judging dispute, contact the Administrator using the contact form on ChevySonicSounds.com. Inquiries should include band name, date of submission, contact information, and a detailed description of the dispute.

All prize details not specified herein shall be at Administrator’s discretion. No prize substitutions, transfers or cash alternatives permitted, except Administrator reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater value if the advertised prize becomes unavailable.
Grand Prize winner is solely responsible for any expenses in connection with the prize not expressly described herein as being awarded including, without limitation, the following: (i) All taxes, including but not limited to federal, state, and local, and (ii) internet connections to use Sonic Bids.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS: By participating in the Contest, each entrant fully and unconditionally agrees to and accepts these Official Rules and the decisions of the Administrator, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Contest. Winning the contest is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein. By participating, entrants acknowledge that all postings, messages, written text, images, photos, video, audio or other materials posted on, transmitted through, or linked from the contest website are the sole responsibility of the person or organization posting such Content. You also understand that neither Sponsor nor Administrator is responsible for Content made available by entrants.
Furthermore, the Content may contain links to other websites that are completely independent of the Contest. We make no representation or warranty as to the accuracy, completeness or authenticity of the information contained on such websites. Under no circumstances will Administrator or Sponsor be liable in any way for any Content or for any loss or damage of any kind incurred as a result of the use of any Content posted, emailed, linked or otherwise made available by entrants.
You understand and agree that any uploading or posting will be at your sole risk and that Sponsor and Administrator shall not be liable to you in any way. Further, we do not provide any warranty as to your use of third-party content or software that you obtain from other entrants.
Additionally, you understand and agree that your Content displayed on the contest website may continue to appear even after you have terminated your account or terminated these guidelines, as portions of your Content may have been incorporated into profiles or other features.
Neither Sponsor nor Administrator is under any obligation to become involved in disputes among members of musical duos. In the event of a dispute, you release Sponsor and Administrator, and their respective employees and agents in rights from claims, damages and demands of every kind, known or unknown, suspected or unsuspected, disclosed or undisclosed, arising out of, or in any way related to such disputes and the service related in any way to Contest.
Failure by any potential winner to return any requested documents within the specified number of days after such documents are issued, the return of such documents or any prize notification as undeliverable, or non-compliance with these Official Rules may result in disqualification, and, at the sole discretion of Administrator the selection of an alternate winner, from among all remaining eligible entries received will be chosen, time permitting. Sponsor, Administrator and their respective parent companies, divisions, affiliates and subsidiaries, and each of their directors, officers, employees, agents, representatives, successors and assigns, and all others associated with the development and execution of this Contest, including, without limitation, the prize providers, are not responsible for: printing or other errors; mechanical errors; inaccurate, fraudulent, incomplete, illegible, late, lost, stolen, misdirected or damaged entries; or any delays in delivery of prize; or bodily injuries, death, losses or damages of any kind, without limitation, that may arise from or in connection with entrants’ participation in this Contest(including without limitation entrants’ attendance and performance at The Loft) or acceptance, possession or use of the prizes, or participation in prize-related activities. Administrator reserves the right at its sole discretion to disqualify: any entries submitted fraudulently, the entries of any entrant that tampers with the operation of the Contest or any entrant who otherwise violates the Official Rules of the Contest. If, for any reason, the Contest is not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes beyond the control of Administrator which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of the Contest, Administrator reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Contest and, if terminated, at its discretion, select the semifinalists, finalists or Grand Prize winner from all eligible, non-suspect Entries received prior to action taken using the voting and/or judging procedure outlined above. Sponsor reserves the right not to award the prize or to choose fewer than fifteen (15) semifinalists or fewer than five (5) finalists if, in its sole discretion, it does not receive a sufficient number of eligible and qualified entries. Prize is subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with these Official Rules. By accepting any prize, the winner agrees that the Sponsor and its designees may use his/her name, voice, photograph, likeness, address (city and state), biographical information, prize information and/or statements about this Contest for advertising and publicity purposes in all media worldwide at the discretion of the Sponsor without limitation, further compensation or notice.
Indemnity: You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Sponsor, Administrator, their respective parents, officers, directors, employees, agents, advertising and promotional agencies from and against any and all claims, damages, obligations, losses, liabilities, costs or debt, and expenses (including but not limited to attorney's fees) arising from: (i) your use of and access to the contest Website; (ii) your violation of any term of these Official Rules; (iii) your violation of any third party right, including without limitation any copyright, property, or privacy right; or (iv) any claim that Content submitted by your account caused damage to a third party.

Chevy Sonic Sounds Contest Voting Terms and Conditions
Voting in the Chevy Sonic Sounds Contest (the “Contest”) is open to legal residents of the Dallas-Fort Worth area, 21 years of age or older at time of vote. Employees of Sponsor, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, consultants, agents, and participating promotion and advertising agencies and suppliers, and members of their immediate family (spouse, parent, child, sibling and their respective spouses) and persons living in the same household of such employees, whether or not related, are not eligible to vote. The voting process for the Contest is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
All entries that adhere to the guidelines will be posted on www.ChevySonicSounds.com (the “Contest Site”) between November 24, 2011 at 12am CST and December 2, 2011 at 11:59pm CST. (the “Voting Period”) and a visitor to the Contest Site meeting the eligibility requirements for voting set forth herein will have the opportunity to vote for his/her favorite Entry once during the Voting Period. Voters must follow instructions on Contest Site to submit their votes. Limit one (1) vote per person per email address during the entire Voting Period. An email address may only be used to submit one (1) vote regardless of the number of persons who share the email address. One person may only submit one (1) vote and may not submit multiple votes using different email addresses. Voting must be completed by the actual person casting the vote. A person may not vote on behalf of another person. Subsequent votes by a single voter or email address will be disqualified. Votes generated by script, macro or other automated means or any other means intended to impact the integrity of the voting process as determined by Sponsor in Sponsor’s sole discretion are void. Payment or other consideration in exchange for votes is prohibited.
The fifteen (15) entries with the most votes will be named the Semifinalists. A judging panel will then determine the five (5) finalists.
Sponsor and Administrator and each of its parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, consultants, agents, advertising and promotion agencies and suppliers, and the respective officers, directors, shareholders, employees, agents and representatives of the forgoing (collectively, “Released Parties”) are not responsible for incorrect/inaccurate voting information. Released Parties assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, votes. Released Parties are not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or telephone lines, computer online systems, servers, or providers, computer equipment, software, failure of any vote to be cast or tabulated on account of technical problems, human error or traffic congestion on the Internet or at the Contest Site, or any combination thereof or for any other reason, or for any injury or damage to participant's or any other person's computer relating to or resulting from participation in voting process or downloading any materials. CAUTION: ANY ATTEMPT TO DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE VOTING PROCESS OR THE CONTEST IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES OR OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON(S) RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ATTEMPT TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW. Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to modify, terminate, or suspend the voting or void any vote should a virus, bug, non-authorized human intervention, action of entrant or voter, or other cause corrupt or impair the administration, security, or fairness of the voting. Sponsor further reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any Entrant from participation in the Contest that Sponsor determines violated these terms, tampering with the voting process, or acting in an unsportsmanlike or improper manner and void all associated votes. If the voting process is terminated early by Sponsor, Sponsor reserves the right to count the eligible votes among all non-suspect, eligible votes received up to time of cancellation. The decision of the Sponsor with respect to the tallying of votes, and the invalidation or disqualification of any suspected votes, shall be final and binding.
